Woman Undone (A Self Portrait Project)
I did a little self portrait project the one day. Sitting at home trying to be creative, I thought to myself why not paint myself black and take self portraits. For what? Doesn’t matter, sometimes the creative outlet is all we need. Whatever the outcome will be just that, whatever. I had no direction as to what I was going to do or what I was going to do with the images once they were done. I prefer that sometimes. Don’t you? Just doing, without knowing…
In the end, I decided to post them on my instagram account for Women’s Day in South Africa 2016, with a little poem I came up with on the spot. There was a time when a lot of women were speaking up on Twitter about being abused, or being in abusive relationships. There were a lot of crimes against women being spoken about on social media, and in end the emotion I let out in this self portrait shoot just fitted so well that I needed to share it and put my raw self out there. Even though it was not intentional at all.

These are some of the other images, edited in high intensity, which I just found made these images so much more powerful. I stayed away from skin smoothing or even trying to get rid of my bikini tan line. The realness of the image needed to remain (skew septum piercing and all). Plus, I hate over photoshopped images.
Kinda like looking at processed film…
This woman is done!
